Driving cost savings = miles avoided × IRS mileage rate
The IRS mileage rate is used as a proxy for total vehicle operating cost, including fuel, maintenance, tires, depreciation, and wear.
CO₂ avoided so far this month
CO₂ avoided = (miles avoided ÷ average MPG) × CO₂ tons per gallon
All-time savings since 2021
All-time savings = historical dataset savings + modeled savings for 2024–present
Historical savings use the original statewide telework dataset. Post-2023 savings are modeled using the latest available telework participation, a 5% 2024 reduction, 1.5% annual growth afterward, and California gas-price history from EIA.

These figures combine the latest available statewide telework participation data with current California gas prices and model inputs shown on the main page.
